Just because I wrote this book doesn’t mean that I have totally stopped running from myself. Old habits sometimes feel more comfortable than confronting the lie.
Walking out of the fog of denial isn’t just taking a few steps forward. No, it is an ongoing process that can take years. Why so long? Well, because in the denial, which usually is from a traumatic experience, we form beliefs that are so intertwined in the fabric of our being that we don’t even realize they are there.
I haven’t met one person who has “instantly changed” their beliefs about themselves once the veil of denial has been removed. For me, it has taken me years to exchange the lies I believed for truth. And in fact, some lies creep back into my subconscious when I fail to practice a simple yet essential discipline that is found in scripture.
2 Corinthians 10:5 AMP
We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,
I’m not sure about you, but for me, my self-talk can be so destructive that I have to ask: Who am I talking to?
Have you ever noticed that every step you take forward is like you get pushed two steps back? Why is that? Again, those old bike paths that are grooved into the ground, where our wheel falls into. We need to be purposeful in taking captive our thoughts to create new paths that will lead us out of the deception that has kept us captive.
We are all finding freedom, and we don’t need to allow the enemy of our souls to convince us of the lie that we need to be totally free before we can help another.
I asked the Lord, out loud, ‘How can I be a mentor of inner healing, helping another when I need inner healing myself?’
And instantly, I saw a vision and heard these words: Georgia, you are still finding freedom; you are walking toward the gate that I have opened for you, but that does not mean you can’t help the one who is still stuck in the prison cell.
“What is one lie you’ve believed about yourself that God has been gently rewriting with truth?”
